| Here it is friends... The story of how Andy proposed to me!
It all started on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, around 6:30 p.m. I was at work when I received the call from Andy. He told me that he was on his way to Wal-Mart in Bryan when his tire blew out. He said that my roomie Rach was going to pick me up when I got off work and that a wrecker was on the way to pick him up. He sounded like he was about to cry on the phone, and he has been having problems with his truck lately, so his "story" was completely believable.
Rach arrives at the Rec around 6:45, when I am scheduled to get off. However, I was a little late, so we didn't leave the Rec until around 7:00. She tells me that we have to pick up Christian (her boyfriend) from the George Bush Library because he volunteered to stay late and help load up some equipment for his job. Her "story" was believable too because Christian was sick and he went to work late so volunteering to stay late made sense to me. We arrive at the Library, and Rach doesn't know where Christian is. So, I told her to stop the car and call him. She agreed and said that was a great idea. She stopped the car, and then she tells me to get out of the car. I give her a really confused look while I'm thinking to myself "you really want me to get out in the scorching heat and walk around looking for your boyfriend, I don't think so." She was like get out. So I got out, and she was like "oh, you need to take this." She handed me a white rose with a note tied to it. Here's blonde moment #1... I think to myself "why does she want me to give Christian a white rose." Yeah, I know... blonde moment. Anyhoo, I give her yet another confusing look and she tells me to read the note. So I read the note and it says It ran on a track, but is now on display. Parked in this lot surrounded by chains. Go there... Ya know ya wanna!!! I give her yet another confusing look and ask her what I'm supposed to do. She was like read the note and go there. I read it again and was like "I know it's the train but I don't know where it is." Thankfully, Rach points me in the right direction.
Now, I'm walking to the train. I get there, and I see no one. So I am, yet again, a little confused. And here's my thought process once I arrive at the train... "Aww, Andy is being really sweet and we're going to have a picnic inside the train. But I thought he said he we were going to get Chicken Express. That's okay; we can eat chicken and have a picnic." Then I read the sign on the train that says "Please Do Not Climb," and my thoughts go like this... "Well, we can't get inside the train to eat because you can't even climb on it. I don't know what to do." I wait there for what seems like an eternity. Finally, my other roomie Rach came out from behind the train and hands me another white rose with an appropriate note attached. This note said... This creature on hoof is a symbol of freedom Statuesque in form the Berlin wall beneath them. Go there... Hurry Hurry Hurry! I got this clue immediately and headed over to the horse statue with the Berlin Wall.
Thankfully, Christian wasn't hidden very well, and I saw him immediately. He obviously handed me the last white rose with a note attached. This one said... Surrounded by roses and built for Mrs. Bush A stone covered structure where I can grab your tush!! Come find me!! Apparently, the only word they could think of to rhyme with bush was tush. I thought it was cute. Anyhoo, so I start walking toward the left, and Christian whistles at me and points to the right. I get the hint and start walking down the walkway toward the gazebo. Then I come to the first white rose lying on the sidewalk. Here was blonde moment #2... My initial thought was "Hmm... I wonder if these are for me. Maybe I should pick them up." Yes, I know... it's okay, you can laugh at me. So, I'm following the white roses and remember that the sidewalk is going to fork around the pond. I decide that I am going right because it seemed faster to me. But oh no and thankfully, there were white roses going to the left. So I followed the rest of the white roses around the pond. And then I saw him standing right outside the gazebo...
At this point, I know something is up, but I'm still a little unsure. Andy had on a collared shirt with jeans, so I knew this wasn't just a random picnic because Andy doesn't dress up much unless it's a special occasion. I walk up to him, and he grabs my hand. So I follow him into the gazebo. He tells me to sit down while he's getting his guitar. I sit down, and he stands in front of me and sings/plays "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts. It's the perfect song for him and me because we were both in long relationships before that got a little complicated. So it just fits! During the song, I cannot help but notice the sweat that's literally streaming down Andy's face. At one point, I even point to his nose and tell him it's dripping off. At this point I have a pretty good idea what's about to happen, but there was still this really small part of me that was like no way. When the song is over, Andy opens his guitar case to put up the guitar, and that's when I see a single red rose in the case. As Andy is picking up the rose, I notice the bling bling from the ring. Speechless. My eyes got wide and my heart literally stopped. Andy got down on one knee and asked "Rachel Ann Blaschke, will you marry me?" I nodded my head yes and barely whispered a yes. I give him a hug, and then he asks for my hand so he can take off my other ring to put on my engagement ring. He then asks me if I said yes, and I tell him that I did. And then I ask him if it's real. I know... crazy, but we had talked about it for so long and nothing happened then that I was just really shocked and surprised. Then Andy proceeds to tell me to smile because I'm on candid camera. Haha. He had set up a camera in the bushes so that everything was recorded! How awesome is that?
I collected my vase with flowers, and Andy I started walking to his vehicle. I saw Rach, Rach, and Christian hiding so they came out. Then all my family walked out! That's when I lost it. I started crying and couldn't stop. I didn't know what to do. I stopped and then turned around back to Andy and then turned around back to my family. Of course, Andy is still filming all of this. My mom, step-dad, brother, dad, step-mom, future mother-in-law and future father-in-law were all there. It was such a special moment. I gave everyone a hug, and then we all headed back to my apartment so I could change clothes. Then we drove to Texas Roadhouse (my favorite restaurant) for dinner!
I am so incredibly blessed to be engaged to Andrew David Rice. I love him so much, and look forward to spending the rest of my life with him. At the moment, our wedding day is set for Saturday, June 16, 2007. The location is still to be determined. |
